something for everyone and like me you will leave inspired.”

Cian O'Connor- Irish International Showjumper - Feb 2010

"William Micklem is a consummate speaker. His high energy

and often humorous presentation charged the listeners

with enthusiasm and confidence in the most practical and effective manner. It was truly inspiring for the athletes preparing to compete

for the first time at the World Equestrian Games

in 2010 and seeking qualification for London 2012."

Avril O’Byrne – Chef d’equipe Irish Paralympic Equestrian Team - Jan 2010

“William Micklem has a unique way of getting inside the heart
and mind of his listeners. He connects with his audiences
and his words linger and tease the memory, bringing value and power
long after the presentation. William is a great educator
whose passion and love of sport, coaching and horses
inspires those lucky enough to hear his presentations.”
Liam Moggan - Coach Education Development – Coaching Ireland - Oct 2009

"Inspirational, educational.

A thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile evening"

Barbara Micks - National Chairman Horse Trials - Irish Pony Club - Feb 2010

> CUSTOM MADE INDUCTED INTO USA HALL OF FAME
On Dec 5th Custom Made will become only the seventh horse to be inducted into the United States Eventing Association Hall of Fame. Custom Made was ridden by David O'Connor to win an Individual Gold medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, as well as winning Badminton in 1997. He was bought on William's advice after he competed in the Young Rider European Championships in Blenheim in 1994 ridden by Arron Mannion. William was coach for this team and so knew Custom Made well. "He was the complete event horse, great in all three phases although he did not have a classic jumping technique and was strong across country."

Biko, ridden by David's wife Karen was inducted as the sixth horse in the Hall of Fame three years ago so this is a great double for the O'Connors and William. William bought Biko as a 3yo and sold him on to Karen as a 6yo. William's wife Sarah has the distinction of being the first person to jump Biko.

> MANDIBA SECOND AT FAIR HILL CCI***

Our homebred star Mandiba and Karen O'Connor stormed back to form to be 2nd at the *** CCI International at Fair Hill in the USA, despite Karen breaking her scapula and ribs only weeks ago in a motorbike accident, and despite terrible weather. The pair showed their class and courage to lead after the dressage and go clear across country. "My shoulder was getting sore so I slowed down towards the end of the track", said Karen.
The competition, which also serves as the USA *** championships was won by Boyd Martin with the thoroughbred Neville Bardos.

> FUND RAISER FOR PARALYMPIAN JOAN SALMON

I will be making a very special presentation at the new Spruce Lodge, near Brittas in Co. Wicklow, Ireland, on October 23rd at 7.30 pm, in aid of the training fund for blind paralympian Joan Salmon.
Joan aims to ride at the Olympics in 2012 and needs all our support, especially as she is about to have her second kidney transplant. International star show jumper Cian O'Connor will be making a special appearance and I will be using my GO! Rules as the structure for the evening.

> HORSE AND HOUND ARTICLES - SAFER CROSS COUNTRY RIDING

I have a three week series of articles in the Horse and Hound commencing this Friday, October 9th, on safer cross country riding and training.  We did a days photo shoot  in the UK last week using Vicky Brake as a model.  Vicky galloped successfully round Burghley **** this autumn on Looks Like Fun and originally produced both Call Again Cacalier and Imperial Cavalier to advanced level, before they were sold for Mary King to ride.  It is a great compliment to be asked to do these articles for Britain's most prestigious and successful equestrian magazine.
I believe we can do much more in our training and preparation to make us safer across country and increase the margin for error.  < See Horse and Hound >

> MANDIBA & HIGH KINGDOM IN ACTION

Mandiba and High Kingdom were both in action over the weekend.  Mandiba was 6th in the Advanced class at Morven Parh in the USA with temporary new jockey Philip Dutton.  Karen O'Connor has broken her shoulder in a fall of a motorbike but hopes to be back on Mandiba for *** at Fair Hill next month.  High Kingdom was 16th in the ** Lignieres International  Event in France.  He finished on his dressage score in a very hot competition with 80 runners.  Zara Phillips was delighted and now looks forward to his *** debut next year.  "He has piles of scope and is both brave and careful so I am really excited about the future for him."

> SMART SPIRIT & SARRA MAYBERRY

Smart Spirit, the grey 5 year old half brother of Mandiba and High Kingdom, by Grange Bouncer, has gone to Sarra Mayberry in Scotland.  We are so pleased about this as Sarra is a past student of mine and has huge talent - she won a team Gold medal on the British European Young Rider team in 2005.  Smart Spirit has a great trot and a great attitude and we believe he has a very big future in horse trials.  Sarra also has the very talented mare Moores Stream, that my brother John and I found for her as a 4yo.  She has recently gone advanced and is due to make her *** debut next year.  We wish them all luck and we will keep you informed of their progress.

> GAA TO USE WILLIAM'S HABITUAL HATS STRUCTURE FOR TRAINING OF ALL COACHES

The Gaelic Games Association (GAA) is now using William Micklem's Habitual Hats structure for the training of all hurling coaches in the organisation. Said Paudie Butler, National Hurling Coordinator and Sports Ireland Tutor
"I use William Micklem's model on every course and I am so pleased I can now share it with all our coaches.
It has been one of my main tools for the past ten years and I couldn't have managed without it.
Now we can all use it."

> THE GO! RULES
PRESENTATION TO NATIONAL PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS' CONFERENCE

William recently gave a presentation on his GO! Rules to a conference of Primary School Teachers in Athlone, Ireland.  The response was extraordinary bearing in mind the audience consisted entirely of professional and experienced teachers.  Said conference leader Sadie Honner, Principal of Powerscourt National School.

"The response from William Micklem's presentation on The GO! Rules was overwhelmingly positive.  He has produced a unique structure that strikes a cord with young people and will be of great benefit.  It is rare for us to come across fresh ideas that have the potential to lighten our load and are welcomed by both teachers and students.  We loved The GO! Rules."

> SUCCESS FOR MOORES STREAM & MASTER TREDSTEP

Two years ago I highlighted the potential of two special young horses my brother John and I had found, Master Tredstep and Moores Stream. (See TOP 10 HORSES) This autumn both have distinguished themselves in international competition. The 7yo mare Moores Stream ridden by Sarra Mayberry completed her first CCI ** on her dressage score at Necarne in N.Ireland, and the 6yo Master Tredstep was 6th at Aldon CCI * in England with Aidan Keogh, also finishing on his dressage score. Both these horses have the right ability and right riders to be competitive at the highest level in the future. It is a long road but wonderful to look forward to.

> HIGH PRAISE FOR MICKLEM MULTIBRIDLE

John Ledingham, the international show jumping coach, who rode in over 60 Nations Cups, winning the Hickstead Derby three times, and was the rider of the legendary show jumper Kilbaha, has high praise for the Micklem Multibridle, which will be available in the UK and USA in March:  "Having worked on many coaching developments with William Micklem over the last fifteen years I am well aware of his understanding of equine bio-mechanics and mental health, and his ability to think outside the box.   This has now seen William develop a sure fire winner in the Micklem Multibridle. If horses were designing a bridle, the Multibridle would be top of their list. Let us educate our horses with kindness and reward as happy horses reach their full potential. Well done William."
